It seems that you have, once again, lured me back—dangling your carrots and such. I don’t hate you. I don’t love you. You just are. Considering that my stay here is indeterminate, I would like my time here to have some meaning. I am an experimental composer/musician (in the widest sense of the term) and while there has never been a lack of rock-type bands, as well as other tepid types of theatre, dance, etcetera, there has always been a concerning deficiency of a steady experimental media venue.
Don’t get me wrong. I love loud guitars and drums, but does this city really need any more?
This is my proposition: I would like to create, with the help of others hopefully, an institution that showcases experimental media (music, dance, poetry, prose, film) from around the Central Valley (possibly something along lines of ‘Central California Experimental Media Foundation’?). I’m not going to lie; this is a selfish endeavor. I’m coming from the East Bay music scene, where I went to grad school, playing music everyday, mixing media. I want this again. I NEED this again! When we decided to come back Fresno it was, like I thought, severely lacking such opportunities. I want to change this. Be it a biweekly or bimonthly event, I believe that Fresno is grown-up enough and that there are enough experimental artists to support this idea. Please if you are an artist that is doing something different and want a place for your work to exist, contact me; help me make this happen. Nothing new ever happens without experimentation.
