Bola is a piece in a series of my ongoing fascination with the (a)tonal resonant characteristics of particular spaces. This piece was recorded and re-recorded—to cause the resonant frequencies come alive—in a16,000 gallon wine fermentation tank in Madera, CA, which I came to realize is a gigantic Helmholtz resonator. Bola was originally featured on the compilation "Subcutaneousound: Music Of Mills College Composers," in 2007.
