I’ve been listening to quite a bit of early Swans and Godflesh recently. I suppose that is where the extreme syncopation comes from on this track. It is extremely bass heavy. This is probably because I’ve been tuning the guitars and bass to A. Frequency wise, I think the mix is a little too bass heavy; I’ll do some tweaking later. The mix is also sans vocals, which will be my typical throat-shred. Every time I get inspired to record the vocals, it’s really late at night and I don’t think my pregnant wife—or the neighbor for that matter—would appreciate that very much. Maybe I’ll get some motivation this afternoon. Here it is in all its rough glory:

- Ryan Gregory Tallman is an experimental electroacoustic composer, multi-instrumentalist, and improviser. His works incorporate “sharp, piercing tones, atmospheric effects, and sinister static,” and blend “wind-like gristle noise, harsh mid tones, and wobbling drones.” His Haunted Tapes “explore timbre and space using finely focused beams of sound.” Most recently, Muscle Memories has been hailed as “a succeeded experiment of different genres . . . with influences of power electronics, noise rhythms, and even resemblances with Pan Sonic.” Tallman has performed with Fred Firth, Pauline Oliveros, Amanda Schoffs, Roscoe Mitchell, Daniel Menche, and his interdisciplinary collaborations include compositions for the San Francisco choreographer, Melissa Payne. He has released recordings through Petcord, Isolationism Records, Subspine Records, Important Records, as well as over 20 independent, self-released albums. Tallman's work ranges from harsh noise and power electronics to sound art installations and processed, ambient acoustic sounds. Tallman, whose performances and recordings span from the savage and possessed to the subdued and immersive.
